About Blue Frontier

Brief biography of Blue Frontier owner, Bill Hooper

A boater his whole life, Mr. Hooper spent many years as a US Sailing Certified sailing instructor.  What began as a summer job eventually became a career.

Mr. Hooper spent several years at the well-known Boston Sailing Center in Boston, MA.  His work there progressed from instructor to club manager to head of boat maintenance, in charge of keeping nearly 60 boats of the club up and running for members.  His position there also included being an on-board instructor for offshore sailing classes to Bermuda and Antigua in the fall and back again in the spring.

Bill obtained his US Coast Guard captain's license in 1998. It includes sailing and towing endorsements.  He currently holds a 100GT Masters license.

Capt. Hooper worked as the full time captain aboard a Bristol 51.1 sail boat.  The boat sailed New England waters in the summers and  the Bahamas in the winter, including trips to Florida and Cuba (yes, the forbidden fruit of the Caribbean!).  He has delivered  boats to Nova Scotia, Bermuda, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and every state from Maine to Florida.

Capt. Hooper is a NMEA Certified Marine Electronics Installer and an ABYC Certified Marine Electrician.  As a USCG approved instructor, Bill teaches boating classes for Boatwise.  Capt. Hooper teaches everything from Basic Boating Safety to Captains license classes.

Bill unabashedly loves boats.  Throughout the years he has had the opportunity to operate countless varieties and takes pride in his varied experiences.  From small wooden catboats (his humble beginnings) to a 135ft. brigantine schooner; from Dyer Dow rowboats to 100+ft megayachts; sail or power; wood, fiberglass, or high-tech, he embraces the gained knowledge any trip on a boat can provide.  He has been active in the sail regatta circuit, racing a variety of one-design and PHRF boats in such regattas as Key West Race Week, Marblehead Race Week, PHRF Championships, US Sailing Championships, and the J24 World Championships.  He also currently serves as Captain aboard a New York Yacht Club Swan 42 and recently had the privilege of sailing with the Royal Yacht Squadron team from Cowes, England in the Inaugural New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup.

In 2002, Blue Frontier was founded to provide quality service and care for boats and boaters.  Supported by this breadth of experience, we believe Blue Frontier can assist you in nearly any aspect of boating.
